I’m not sure how many times people in various medical disciplines have told me to “take a deep breathe”, “focus on my breath” or “steady my breathing” but it’s too many to count. I’ve always hated it. I take it the same way you might take “cheer up luv” or “calm down yeah?” Focusing on my breathing always makes me feel like I’m being suffocated or that if I stop focusing I’ll stop breathing. I actually associate deep breathing with having panic attacks because it’s always what I’m told to do. I know that it works eventually and that breathe work is really important for mindfulness but for me it’s actually really hard to get into that state so I wanted to make a piece about this struggle, how something that seems so natural and chill for some people can for others, feel like nails on a chalkboard.
If this resonates with you please share as I hope I’m not the only one ❤️
